How the 4 on 4 off schedule works
The 4 on 4 off schedule (also called 4x4) is about as simple as shift work gets: four 12-hour shifts, then four days off, repeating.
Each crew works 4 consecutive 12-hour shifts and then has 4 days off. The cycle is 8 days, so your days off move through the week instead of landing on the same weekdays.
Two crews cover days and two cover nights, with each pair offset by four days so one crew is always on.
