How the 7 on 7 off schedule works
The 7 on 7 off schedule (also called 7x7 or week on, week off) packs a fortnight of work into one week: seven 12-hour shifts, then seven days off.
Each crew works 7 consecutive 12-hour shifts, then has 7 days off, repeating every 14 days. Because the cycle is exactly two weeks, your work week always starts on the same weekday.
Two crews cover days and two cover nights, with each pair offset by a week so one crew is always on.
A pay week that runs alongside the work week holds all 84 hours, so many employers start the pay week mid-stretch to split the hours across two weeks. Check how yours counts overtime.
